A knitting machine is used to make jersey, since it can create the small, even, close grained stitches associated with jersey fabric. Garments made from the material have plenty of give as the wearer moves, and also tend to cling to the body, since the fabric contracts as well as expands.
Knit dresses are usually made from jersey fabric, exploiting the clingy characteristics of the fabric.
Silk jersey has only recently been sourced by RCS from Paris and is available in plain black and a small selection of abstract prints.
