Description At ROISIN CROSS SILKS you will learn about silk and its evolution from factory to the catwalk. Students will also learn to appreciate silk as a valuable but scarce commodity. Students will get to see the finest silk collection in Ireland as well as being able to witness at first hand dresses from the finest local designers. RCS is known nationwide as being synonymous for the highest quality in silk and this quality extends also to the RCS educational experience.

Using your personal creativity, the right designs and colours, your handmade soft furnishings can give a totally new look and feel to a room.
This course is designed to give you a broad education in the importance and relevance of soft furnishings. The programme concentrates on each student creating their own sample cushion or throw with a particular emphasis on creative designing, manipulation of fabric, piping, zip installation and button techniques. You will be encouraged to develop skills for finishing the piece to a professional standard using decorative braids, tassels, appliqué designs and fringing.
Course layout • 10-11pm Introduction on the history of Roisin Cross Silks and talk on the range of silks available. Followed by an introduction on sewing.
• 11-1pm Students will be shown then guided on measuring, cutting and preparing fabric for their cushion. Shown how to add unique details such as piping and pleating.
• 1-2pm Lunch
• 2-5pm Sewing cushion together and putting in a zip if required or shown how to do a button finish. There will also be a demonstration on measuring, cutting and adding details to throws and cushions making your project more unique.

Fee €140.00. This is inclusive of silks, cushion filler and lunch.
The silk inclusive in this course is from our selection of 45inch wide raw silk. We have a wide range of colour’s to choice from, however if another fabric takes your fancy there will be a subsidy for our other ranges.
