Our homes reflect our personalities and lifestyles – what better reason to learn how to make your own silk curtains. Using your personal creativity, the correct design and colour, your handmade curtains can give a totally new look and feel to a room.
The course is designated to give you a specific education in the importance and relevance of hand stitching silk curtains. The programmed concentrates on each student creating their own sample curtain, finished with a French pleat.
The Curtain-making Course is 3 hours once a week for 8 weeks. Mornings are 9.30 - 12.30, afternoons are 2 - 5, and evening are 7 -10. The course involves each person making up a sample silk curtain (approx size 2 metres).
You are taught how to hand stitch, line and interline the curtain. The tutor will introduce you to all the curtain headings possible but then the actual curtain will be finished with a French pleat. Teaching then moves on to the make up of a piped silk cushion. RTE presenter of Desperate Houses, Avril Murphy Allen will be speaking about the psychology of colour and will be available to answer specific questions.
The classes are kept small 8-10 and is based in the silk room / office in Crofton Road. The cost is €380 and is inclusive of the lining, interlining and silks used.There is a 20% discount of all silks purchased thereafter.
