Description At ROISIN CROSS SILKS you will learn about silk and its evolution from factory to the catwalk. Students will also learn to appreciate silk as a valuable but scarce commodity. Students will get to see the finest silk collection in Ireland as well as being able to witness at first hand dresses from the finest local designers. RCS is known nationwide as being synonymous for the highest quality in silk and this quality extends also to the RCS educational experience.
We will encourage students to set themselves a challenging design project. Then guide them through the process from design to finished item. This course is designed to give students the skills and knowledge to create and embellish unique pieces. With projects to embellishing their own garments, they will learn how to sew by hand, how to set up and use a sewing machine to its full advantage. We aim to enlighten each student on the unlimited possibilities there are for simple craft projects. We will also move on from these projects to tackling simple commercial patterns. From reading and understanding how a pattern works to cutting and making a garment. Students will develop a good knowledge of how to approach a pattern themselves to create a new item for their wardrobe.
Course Layout
• Week 1 Beginning with building up sewing skills we will make a simple starter project
• Week 2&3 Taking a garment that each student would like to embellish from their wardrobe. They will be guided on how to add to their piece. For example, fabric flowers, modern embroidery and lace detailing.
• Week 4&6 Having built up the students skills and knowledge we will set a design project for each student to try. This could range from a cushion cover to fabric bag or a more challenging embellishment to a student’s garment.
Fee €260.00. This is inclusive of silks and all materials used.
