Description At ROISIN CROSS SILKS you will learn about silk and its evolution from factory to the catwalk. Students will also learn to appreciate silk as a valuable but scarce commodity. Students will get to see the finest silk collection in Ireland as well as being able to witness at first hand dresses from the finest local designers. RCS is known nationwide as being synonymous for the highest quality in silk and this quality extends also to the RCS educational experience.
When you make something yourself, you have something that is truly unique! Starting at the very beginning this step by step day will show you how easy and fun sewing can be. You will want to dust off that old sewing machine and you’ll be amazed by the creative juices that will flow. We will nourish your creative skills by focusing on the key areas of creative sewing:
• The importance of fabric selection. • Threading needles, and using simple hand sewing stitches. • Preparing a sewing machine and sewing straight and turning angles. • Sew simple seam. • Arrange fabric and commercial pattern for sewing. • Cutting and altering patterns. • You will not only take away your finished project, but skills so you can make again at home.
Course layout • 10-11am Introduction on the history of Roisin Cross Silks and talk on the range of silks available. Followed on by an Introduction to sewing.
• 11am-1pm Shown how to begin and prepare a small project (possible a cushion).Learn how best to approach a project, calculating how much fabric is needed and preparing piece for sewing
• 1-2pm Lunch
• 2-5pm Everyone will now be on to a sewing machine and instructed on its workings.
Fee €125.00. This is inclusive of silks, materials used and lunch.
